Day 15

This morning at 7:15 AM Kelsey and I went for a run, I did 4.5 miles. Then I quickly showered, got ready, and ate some cereal before Kelsey and Ingrid picked me up at 8:45 AM. We went with Ingrid to Uppsala which is about 30 minutes away and considered "university town." Ingrid had a couple business meetings at 10 and 12, so while she was busy with that Kelsey and I roamed all around Uppsala for 3.5 hrs. We stopped first at a small cafe so Kelsey could get some caffeine to wake up, while I had a refreshing Coke Zero. After that we walked all around, stopping in some shops. We hiked our way up to the Uppsala castle to see it, but it didn't open til 12, and it was about 11:30 and we were hungry for lunch so we took some pictures instead. I tried finding an open door to sneak in, and almost succeeded when I was pulling on one handle and a girl came busting out of that same door... but I got nervous and scurried away :) so we didn't get to go inside. We stopped to eat lunch at a little pizzeria, Rifiti's pizzeria, it was underground. We were trying to decipher the menu, which was in swedish, for about 5 minutes before the guy behind the counter said "I can translate anything for you." We were like oh that'd be great. He told us the pizzas were only big enough for one person so we each got our own pizza.... well we easily could have shared one, but we ended up each only having 3 small slices left over.

After lunch, we walked around some more and waited for Ingrid to call us and tell us her meetings were over. She called around 1:30 and so we started heading back to the huge church. Once we were back in Enkoping, Kelsey and I biked into downtown to try out the ice cream at one of the cafes we've had our eye on. I got 3 scoops in a cone... one scoop of pistachio, one scoop of after eight (which was mint chocolate chip), and a scoop of chocolate. It was delicious :) So once we biked back from getting that treat, I put on my bathing suit and went and laid out in the backyard.

At 5, dinner was ready. We had that pasta with the meat sauce and salad. I actually drank a little milk with my dinner. I went and laid out for about an hour more after dinner and then came inside to get ready to go catch My. So at 7:30 we biked to the little field near the school and met Kelsey there. I just got back from that and now doing a load of laundry.

I don't have many plans for tomorrow. I'm sure I'll do some form of exercise once I wake up, and then if it's pretty maybe lay out again. Some of My's classmates and girls on the team are planning on coming over around 3pm for me to do their makeup for their prom tomorrow night. That should be fun. Anyways, keep reading and comment if you'd like! :)

BTW... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM! I LOVE YOU :)

Day 14

HEJ! (that's Swedish for "hello" :P )

I learned a new phrase yesterday that I forgot to mention... Jag pratar inte Svenske... which translates to "I don't talk Swedish," or you could say "Jag talar inte Svenske" which translates to "I don't speak Swedish." They taught me how to say I speak a little Swedish tonight, but I already forgot it :) Also, last night we had grilled bananas with chocolate for dessert... they sliced open the whole banana and put some kind of chocolate in the cut that they made, then they wrapped the whole banana in tin foil and grilled it on the grill. We had that with some vanilla ice cream. It was interesting.

Now let's talk about today...

This morning I was supposed to meet Kelsey and Ingrid at this small gravel park area near the school at 9am so I could catch while Ingrid practiced pitching. We rode the bikes there yesterday and it took like 1 minute to get there so I thought it would be no problem... wrong. I went the wrong way and got lost and couldn't figure out how I was missing it so I had a text from Ingrid that asked if I wanted them to ride by the house so I could follow them or if I was meeting them there. I texted back saying for them to come get me because I got lost and was heading back to the house now. So anyways, I caught for about an hour and then we rode back to the house. I told Kelsey I was going to lay out in the backyard so once she changed into her bathing suit she met me out there. After a couple of hours in the sun, I made myself a sandwich for lunch and then got ready for practice at 2pm. Ingrid's husband came out and hit us fly balls for most of the practice and then we hit live off of Kelsey. Practice ended about 4:30, so we biked back to the house to get showered and changed for the get together at Ingrid's at 6. We had chips and cheeseburgers with swedish lemonade, and then Marie made homemade blueberry pie for dessert with vanilla ice cream and creamy vanilla sauce, which was DELICIOUS, and Emelie's mom made Locta Cocka?? haha it's like a sponge cake with raspberries in it, and that was delicious also.

We left Ingrid's around 8:45 and biked back to the house. So now we are waiting for the rest of the family to get home so we can have our family meeting so everybody knows what's going on this week.

Mom's birthday is tomorrow, I'm sad I can't be there to celebrate with her but I know she'll have a blast with Mrs. Christine wherever they decide to go for dinner!

Well I hope yall enjoyed hearing about my day today! I'll see you again tomorrow :)

Day 13

I started off my day this morning with a 30 minute trampoline workout, haha. I didn't feel like running today so that was its substitution. After jumping, I biked down to this little open gravel area near the school so I could catch Ingrid while she practiced her pitching. After biking back to the house, I had a salad and an apple with crunchy peanut butter for lunch, then Ingrid, her husband, her daughter, and Kelsey came by to pick me up to go see ancient carvings in stones. Once we got to the place we had to hike a little under 15 minutes through the woods to get to the big stone. Supposedly the carvings are about 3000 years old and had to be painted on bc the rock was wearing down so much that the carving was becoming too shallow. After looking at some of those and having "fica" (we had pear juice boxes and a small swedish cookie), we hiked back down to the car.

Once they dropped me back off at the house I changed into my bathing suit and laid out for a couple of hours. Noone was home when I first got there but then soon after they all came back. The youngest girls were playing cards outside and I heard the 13 year old cuss in Swedish and then the 7 year old flipped her off shortly after.

After laying out I showered and then had a text from Ingrid asking if I wanted to go eat Thai food for dinner with them. I called Kelsey to say yes, but they had already left so I biked the 15 minutes to the restaurant. The food was very good and they paid for my dinner which was very nice of them. After eating, I decided to do a little site seeing in downtown on my bike because I was bored. After about 30 minutes I biked back to the house.

Now that I'm home, the rest of the family is sitting down for dinner, so I'll go up and sit with them in a few. Karin told me that we are having bananas on the grill for dessert with chocolate sauce. So that should be interesting.

That's about it for the day... I'll probably just relax for the rest of the night and try to catch up with my family!

Day 12

The weather today was PERFECT! Around the low 80's and sunny ALLLL day! :) I took advantage of the weather and started my day with a 5 mile interval workout that kicked my butt. When I got back to the house, I changed into my bathing suit and biked over to Kelsey's so we could wash Ingrid's house windows. It only took us about an hour to do, so when we were finished we sat around waiting for Ingrid to get back home and I had some Swedish "lemonade." Once she got home and paid us, I biked back to my place to fix myself lunch. I had salad with some leftover meat from last night's dinner on it. After eating I was able to skype with Mom, then I went out in the back yard and sunbathed with My for a couple hours.

Around 4pm Karin, My, and I went to pick up Tove from a nearby school. She had participated in a soccer camp the past couple days. After getting her stuff, we went to the grocery store to get some groceries... Karin bought my Coke Zero that I've been wanting... I've been so tired of nothing but warm water. She bought 2 one liter bottles, and they are already almost gone because everyone in the house has been drinking them :( I was able to pour some in my water bottle and stick it in the freezer before it was all gone tho bc I want to have some for when Kelsey and I watch the Hangover Part 2 tonight! :)

After getting back from the grocery store, Kelsey biked over and we biked the 2 miles into town to go ahead and pick up our tickets for the movie tonight... Ingrid's husband showed us earlier today how you can reserve seats online, so that's what we did. We took a different route home because there's this one hill that we hate biking up, but we ended up encountering about 5 of the same size hills on this other route lol. Once I was back home I helped cut lettuce and tomatoes for our "sandwiches" we were eating for dinner. Karin explained that these were the sandwiches she wanted on her birthday night, but because we were all so busy we never got to have them. They are technically called Smorgasbord sandwiches because you put EVERYTHING on them.... so my pita consisted of a sliced boiled egg, a piece of sandwich ham, red peppers, lettuce, tomato, avocado, cucumber, butter (spread first on the bread), little tiny shrimp, and then some homemade sauce that had caviar, onions, and sour cream mixed together. Karin was putting some weird looking spread on her sandwich and told me to put some on my finger and try it, so I did. I kind of had a suspicion of what it might be by reading the swedish label... and she confirmed those suspicions when she told me what it was after I tried it... liver paste. It actually wasn't that bad, it was kind of bland, but smelled like cat food. Needless to say, I did not add that to my sandwich.

Since today is Saturday and a "candy day" here in Sweden, I had some of my candy throughout the day that I bought last weekend at the huge candy store. Now I'm just waiting for Kelsey to bike over here in the next 20 minutes so we can bike down to the movie theater. Our movie starts at 9:30, so we'll be biking back home afterwards... but it shouldn't be too dark since it never seems to get very dark here.

Karin knows I like to exercise so she suggested I jump on their trampoline for about 20 minutes as exercise since it works all your muscles... so I think instead of running again tomorrow I will wake up and jump for awhile :) if nothing else it will be more fun than running :)

Day 11

Today's been a fun day! This morning I woke up, had some cereal, and then went for a 5 mile run. Afterwards, Kelsey rode her bike over and we drove the car to the train station to pick Jonna up. Then we went to the softball field to get some extra hitting in. Jussan also came to the field so Kelsey and I could help her with her hitting. We finished around 12:30 and Kelsey, Jonna, and I drove the car to Ingrid's to drop off all the equipment, then went back to my place. After changing into our bathing suits, we biked down to the store so I could buy some mixed nuts for my lunch. Then we biked the 30 minutes down to the lake... which was GORGEOUS!

We soaked up the sun for close to 3 hours. The weather was perfect... about 78 degrees and sunny. The water was WAAAYY too cold for me, I don't know how the people were swimming in it. I dipped my feet in and that was enough to make me short of breath haha. After laying out on the dock, we biked back to the house so we could get the car and drive Jonna back to the train station. She said she's going to have Kelsey and I take the train to her house one weekend so we can go out with her and I can have my first train experience.

Once back at the house I showered and got ready for dinner. Karin's twin sister and her husband and 3 kids came for dinner, so Micke grilled all sorts of different meats... ribs, pork, steak, peppersteak, sausage dogs. And we had boiled potatoes, salad, bread, and tomatoes on the grill with it. We ate around 8:45 and just finished, so Kelsey and I will have to wait until tomorrow night to go see Hangover Part II in the cinema. Karin told me that we should go buy our ticket right when the theater opens because they only have one line in the whole theater for people buying tickets and buying concession items, so sometimes people miss their entire movie because they wait until the last minute to stand in line.

I'm pretty tired right now, so tonight might be another early night for bed for me. Kelsey and I are washing Ingrid's house windows tomorrow sometime for some extra krona, so yall will hear all about that tomorrow :)

Day 10

Today has been such a LOOONG day! I could easily go to bed right now. I just got home from our 2 games in Leksand which is 2 hours away. We left at 7:30 this morning, and I slept most of the way to the field :)

Once we got to the field, we all changed into our uniforms in the locker room and then walked to the field to start warming up. First game started at 12. Their team had an American pitcher who wasn't that great, she basically only threw outside pitches. I THINK I went 4 for 4 against her... but the hits weren't that great, their defense just wasn't good. One hit went right between the 2nd baseman's legs, but her glove never touched it so I'm counting that as a hit. Another one was a line drive/pop fly to center and she misjudged it and didn't touch it. Another hit went to shortstop, and we had a runner on 2nd, so she glanced at the runner and then tried to throw me out at 1st but I beat out the throw. And then my other hit went inbetween third and short. I played third the 1st game and I made a double play when a girl tried to bunt the ball... she popped it up and I threw the girl out who was on first. Then I caught another pop fly that was out in left field... but I went after it bc I was nervous the girl playing that position wouldn't catch it :/ We ended up losing that first game 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning.

I caught the second game and threw a girl out stealing! YAY :) they were running all over me, it was kind of embarrassing but our shortstop wasn't getting to 2nd in time so whenever I did decide to throw it I was just aiming for the bag with no one there. Finally, Jonna, she just got done with her freshman year of college ball in california, called time and went to shortstop and the very next pitch I threw the runner out :) I got up to bat 6 times in the 2nd game and I had that I was 3 for 5 with a walk... but when Ingrid showed Kelsey and I the stat book after the game, the guy had me down as 1 for 4 with 2 walks. One ball I hit didn't even touch the shortstops glove and they called that an error... and one inning I got up to bat 2 times and had 2 solid base hits, one line drive over second base and another hard grounder in between third and short, but the guy keeping the book put me down as one base hit and another walk? So oh well. In the bottom of the 6th inning we were up 29-16, and we just had to keep a 10 run lead in order to end the game after that inning, but I dropped another 3rd strike ball, and then the American came up to bat and hit a triple! I was like oh no, not again... I've got to get better about catching the balls the batters swing at :) haha. But we ended up winning in the 6th inning 29-18! :)

After the game, the guy who kept the book (i think) came up to me and asked where I was from and I told him South Carolina. He asked which part because he had gone to college in North Carolina and is from Texas... he is over here playing baseball. He said he heard my southern accent as I was catching and yelling at the defense.

We all ended up showering in the locker room before we left... they are not very shy about showering with/in front of each other, but they understood Kelsey and I not wanting that so we were able to shower by ourselves. We ended up stopping to eat at Max, which is the Sweden version of a McDonalds. I was told that their fajita salad was good so I got that.... but it was not good. I was thinking like fajita chicken on a salad... but it had nacho cheese and like taco meat on it and came with a few chips to dip in sour cream and salsa, so I basically just ate the chips and a little bit of the salad. I'm pretty hungry right now.

Well, that was my day today. A couple of the girls want Kelsey and I to practice hitting with them at the field tomorrow so we might do that kind of early so that we can ride our bikes to the lake after. And then we might see Hangover part 2 sometime this weekend! :)

Day 9

Today wasn't too eventful so this probably won't be an interesting blog...

Kelsey came over this morning around 9:30 because we were going to bike down to the lake until lunchtime... but it was about 54 degrees and starting to rain so we rode our bikes back to her place and watching the movie, Taking Lives. After the movie I rode back to my place and skyped with Mom before she went in to work and then I made a sandwich for lunch.

After eating, Kelsey biked back over and she, My, Gabby, and I biked downtown to watch the "parade" for the high school graduation. All the guys were in black suits and the girls were in white dresses and they were all wearing white looking sailor hats. They were grouped onto trailers with music blasting, and they danced and screamed as they were being driven around the square. Then they got off the trailers and walked around the square... and then some of them had their own convertibles decorated so they sat on top of the cars and drove around. After taking part in that celebration, My and Gabby showed Kelsey and I the huge church downtown, so we walked inside and took some pictures, and then we walked through the cemetery that was behind the church.

After walking around for a little while we biked back to the house. I took about an hour nap and then had to get ready for practice. Only 10 people showed up for practice out of 18, and then 3 had to leave early so we had 7 for the last half. We finished around 8:15 and then biked back to the house for dinner. Micke and Karin made peppersteak, boiled potatoes, bread, salad, and they grilled tomatoes and red peppers on the grill. I had ice in my water for the first time since being in Sweden! The ice was in a little plastic wrap thing that you had to tear open to take out each individual piece... so I don't know if they just bought it or if there's more in the freezer somewhere! After eating, I helped clean the dishes and then My and I went ahead and made our sandwiches that we'll be packing to take for lunch in between our games tomorrow. Karin and Micke also bought yogurt that you drink from a bottle, so I've been informed I will also have one of those with my sandwich. Karin also brought home loads and loads of apples and bananas for the house which I'm excited about because I've been eating their apples like crazy.

But that's all that happened today. I'll be heading to sleep early tonight since I have to be up at 6:30am. We are leaving for our games at 7:30am and probably won't be home til 7:30 pm or later. It's going to be a very long day. But I was told tonight at practice that I will be playing 3rd base again for the first game and catching again for the second game, so wish us luck! :)
