Day 75, 1st full day in Rome!

The alarm failed to go off this morning, so we were awoken by our breakfast being brought to our room. I ordered a cappuccino and toast with butter/marmalade; and Greg ordered orange juice with a chocolate croissant and nutella spread.

After we ate, we both got ready, and headed out around 10:30 AM. We walked the short distance (5 minutes) to the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel... and while we were standing in line, we were approached by people who kept telling me I needed to buy a shoulder cover up thing and a skirt in order to go into the Sistine Chapel. So finally, we decided to walk back to the hotel so I could put a dress on that at least went to my knees, and then I bought a shoulder cover up for 4 euros.

We were inside the Vatican for about an hour and a half. The place is HUGE. After we toured that, we decided to have lunch, so we found this small italian restaurant where we both ordered spaghetti and salad.

After we ate lunch, we went back to the hotel so I could put something more comfortable on and some tennis shoes and we left to find the Metro so we could get to Trastevere. We bought a 3 day metro card, and took that to Roma Termini, where we were supposed to get on San Peter's station all the way to Trastevere, but we couldn't find that anywhere, so we asked a grumpy information guy who told us to get on this other train that left in 9 minutes... well it took us 8 minutes to find the platform, then we had to figure out how to buy a train ticket, and then we ran and got on the train, only to be told to run back and have our ticket stamped by some machine. Luckily, the train was running 5 minutes late and we were able to make it, and it ended up taking us straight to Trastevere.

Once we got there, we walked a little ways and found a small gelati cafe that had all kinds of flavors. I ordered nutella mixed with snickers gelati in a cone, and Greg ordered a flavor labeled "guiness world record."

After we cooled off with our gelati, we began walking around Trastevere... we found our way to the river and where we were on the map, and ended up walking all the way back to our hotel which took about 2.5 hrs.

Once back at our hotel, we freshened up, I changed back into my dress, and we headed out to see what kind of place we could find for dinner. We ended up eating at this little italian place up on the corner near our hotel. I ordered the pizza caprese, and Greg ordered noodles with meat sauce. Both were very good... I'm loving this italian pizza.

After dinner, we walked to a small grocery store where Greg bought us a pack of waters, and then we went back to our hotel for the night.

We have breakfast being delivered at 9 am again tomorrow, and after that we're hoping to go to the Colosseum, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain.

Pictures have been posted so take a look! Stay tuned for more to come...
